Swords and Daggers and Bayonets - OH MY!

We've received another HUGEconsignment of edged weapons from many different countries and time periods: Nazi daggers, Japanese swords, US Bayonets - and so much more. They are working their way through tag-in andphotography as I type and should begin to make it up for bid on the website within the week - more will follow for some time to come! Be sure to check the site frequently as items will be added continuously - and not just edged weapons . . .

We still have boxes and boxes to unpack, but they contain more WWII military weapons, field gear, uniforms, badges, insignia, headgear and on and on and on. Again, many different countries and time periods are represented: WWI, WWII, US, Germany, Japan, France, UK - AND MORE. What other militaria auction house or dealer receives consignment on this scale AND on a regular basis? There is only one . . . The one and only Manion's International Auction House.

I've posted some pics below and will continue to do so - visit often, and thanks again for reading Manion's Collecting News!

Manion's and Kansas City Public Television

Greetings - thanks so much to everyone who tuned in Monday night to the Kansas City Public Television (KCPT) pledge drive. For those of you weren't able to watch, we hosted our local station's pledge drive March 8 during Antiques Roadshow and they cut to Manion's own John Conway and Andrew Turner several times during the event. We also had several Manion's employees answering the phones and taking pledges - along with members of MENSA.

We brought several interesting pieces to highlight during these breaks; it was kind of like we had a little antiques roadshow of our own! I'll post video from the event, when I receive it from the producers, but here are a few pics from the studio.

Militaria for sale: Pakistan

Looks like thick bullion embroidered insignia with black oil-cloth type backs are not the only militaria commerce coming out of Pakistan. I thought this video was really interesting, but maybe not quite the dilemma the reporter represents.

UPDATE

Funny, the night after I posted this, I saw The Kingdom and maybe selling these items "over there" is a bit different than "over here".

Back from the 2010 SOS - WHAT A SHOW

Man, the 2010 SOS did not disappoint - but whew, it is good to be back in the 913 (or 816 as the case may be . . . ). A bit less than 2000 tables, distinguished veterans, militaria of all countries and time periods, good friends, old customers, new customers, pork products - the list goes on and on.

In addition, each year Manion's provides information about the National WWI Museum at Liberty Memorial here in Kansas City. The curator, Doran Cart, attends each year scouring the show for new finds for the museum. He picked up several new finds for the collection: posters, uniforms - and more. As I've said many times on this blog, we are proud to live in a community that supports and maintains the National WWI Museum. I realize a visit to Kansas City may not be at the top of your "Bucket List", but if you are at all interested in WWI history, a trip to the museum should be. It's just minutes from I-70 and I-35 - couldn't be a more convenient location for those traveling through the area . . .

I posted a TON of pictures below from the show; let's just let them do the rest of the talking about the show (you'll find one of Manion's own John Conway with Doran Cart of the WWI Museum). If you've never been to the OVMS Show of Shows - you are missing out. Make immediate plans to attend the 2011 event to be held Feb. 24-27. Click here for more information. Enjoy the pics!
