Militaria and more from Manion's

Hello military collectors!

I apologize for my lapse in postings as of late, I have had quite a bit going on.

There is a lot happening here at Manion's Auction as well. It's supposed to be our slow season, but things haven't really backed off that much. We still have a lot of consignment coming in and items purchased going out. I believe we have already sold 4000 items this month!

Our show schedule has definitely stopped for a while, I believe the next one we attend will be the Show of Shows in Louisville, Kentucky in February of 2008.

Our offices will be closed this Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday season. We will reopen on Monday, but will be operating with a skeleton crew. We will be checking the messages, but if your issue can wait until Tuesday, we suggest you call back then.

Also, don't miss out on our 0% buyer's commission this Saturday, November 24. All auctions will close at 8:30 p.m. CST - it's a great opportunity to add items to your collection at a fraction of the price.

We hope all is well with you and yours, and we wish you a pleasant holiday season.

West Coast Show - day two

There's a steady flow of people coming through the door today, and Hugh Mills has been keeping quite busy speaking and signing books and photos. There have been quite a range of people coming up to his table: from veteran's saying saying that he inspired them to become military helicopter pilots to housewives and little kids. He's a true American hero, and I'm humbled to work with him at this event.

We've taken in quite a bit of consignment, and John and I have found some good deals ourselves. The organizer of the event, Bob Chatt, has shown us a good time - he's a hell of a host. Plus, his booth has some of the coolest stuff at the show. Bob's a great guy and really knows how to put on a show. Looks like we'll be up at the crack of early tomorrow to go to the Rose Bowl flea market with him tomorrow.

Anyway, here's a video of the show that Bob Hudson, from the US Militaria Forum made yesterday - it's really cool and gives you an idea of what the event is all about.

West Coast Militaria Show - Day One

Well folks, Vintage Production's West Coast Militaria show is officially in full swing. There was a line about 100 people deep at the door waiting to get it. There are some FANTASTIC items here, it's definitely one of the best shows around - and gaining on the Great Western status!

Renowned Vietnam helicopter pilot, and author of Low Level Hell made the trip with us and has been keeping us entertained with stories of Air Cavalry Vietnam service and duty with the KC Police Department. He's here signing books and photos, plus we have reproduction Outcasts T-shirts just like the ones they wore in country.

Anyway, here's some pics from today - stand by for more tomorrow!

More stolen items

What is going on? More potential theft information...

Here's some information about a WWII German sniper patch that was either lost or stolen sometime around the 2007 MAX show. I thought I'd post it here in the hopes that someone may come across it and contact the rightful owner. All of his contact information is on the attached document, as is a description and photo of the item.

At any rate, we'll be heading out for Vintage Production's West Coast show at the crack of early tomorrow. Check back for photos and updates throughout the weekend!

Attention US Vietnam militaria collectors!

Here's a really neat item that just went up on www.manions.com - especially for a Vietnam collector!

It's a 90mm brass shell casing from and M48 mail battle tank was sent back from Vietnam in 1969 by an Americal Lt. with the 2/A/1/1 Cavalry Regt.

Later, a copper section was added highlighting service details. 90mm shells are far and few between, and especially with such well documented details as to its origin. The piece even has fingerprints from the original shell handler. Here's a pic of the item on the auction - as well as a shot of the Lt. and a Company Commander holding the shell at a recent reunion!

This piece definitely adds dimension to a collection and is certainly an attention grabber - and the starting bid is only $50!

This photo is a 1995 reunion of George Sandell, CO of A Troop 1/1 Cav. Regt. and Jim Sobery, 2nd Platoon Leader of A/1/1 who served together in 1969. A brass 90mm shell casing used by a M48A3 main battle tank in A Troop is pictured. Jim mailed this to his parents from Chu Lai, Vietnam in 1969.
